At a patriot event yesterday, Joey Gibson outlined various ways Washington State and the City of Vancouver have tried to criminalize his public Christian events. This isn’t just about him, it’s about Christianity.
We know Christianity is under attack when we see a pastor like James Coates spending actual jail time for doing exactly what Jesus calls all of us to do. As Gibson said Saturday, don’t write off Coate’s arrest because it happened in Canada – it’s happened here in the US too.
God liberates. Tyrants will always try to prevent you from hearing God.
This is at the heart of what it means to be an American in a time of crisis. Freedom of worship is in this country’s DNA. With all due respect to the civilizations who lived here before European colonization, this country exists as the leading economic, cultural, technological and democratic force in the world because… Jesus.
Let’s review history for just a minute here. The Gutenberg Bible revolutionized Christianity because it gave people the ability to read Scripture for themselves in their own language. They started questioning Catholic doctrine. New ways of worshiping emerged. This threatened the power dynamic controlled by European aristocracies and the Catholic Church. Each new king would impose new laws to repress rebel worshippers.
Does that sound familiar at all?
- Gutenberg Bible = new access to information = internet
- Kings & Popes = power establishment = WHO/CDC/Politicians/”Science” as God
- People disagree with power establishment –> imprisoned
There is nothing new about what’s going on right now.
Religious persecution in Europe became so intolerable that some were willing to leave everything behind, crossing the Atlantic to a wild, foreign land just to worship freely.
Not just in the privacy of their homes, which they could have continued to do secretly in their own country, but publicly and together.
We are not giving that up now.
Our current culture of masking, testing and forced vaccinations (as well as imposed sensitivity to every quirk and insecurity) is shifting our national focus away from its God-given vision of the future to one of fearful hiding. Fear is not an emotion that Jesus teaches us to indulge in, in fact he consistently preaches the opposite, as does God himself throughout the Old Testament.
Matthew 6:25 (ESV): 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
This is a very simple choice: Are we ready to meet God’s expectation that we gather?
We will continue to assert our First Amendment right to worship and protest any public officials who attempt to limit it. If you agree, please subscribe so you can join us.
